Ty Kaplan is a senior journalism major at Texas Tech, and an emerging sports media professional with experience reporting for the Dallas Morning News, The Daily Toreador and the National Premier Soccer League. His work spans live event coverage, feature writing, breaking news, game recaps, sports columns and digital content strategy.
He also serves as his university’s sports editor for the student publication. Since taking over the football beat for The Daily Toreador in 2023, Ty has played a pivotal role in rebuilding the publication’s relationship with Texas Tech Athletics communications staff. Under his leadership, The Daily Toreador became the most consistently represented newsroom in press conferences and team media availability. Ty also established a new travel standard within the publication, regularly covering away football games to strengthen trust and familiarity with coaching staff, athletes and personnel. Over the years, that commitment has elevated both access and reporting depth.
Ty’s coverage experience includes the 2025 Big 12 Football Championship, the 2025 Women’s College World Series, high-level collegiate athletics and semi-professional soccer. His reporting is defined by deep-rooted curiosity and countless hours of research.
